All residential rooms have high-speed Ethernet ports that can be used for internet access while on campus. Additionally, most common areas (lounges, dining halls, etc.) have wireless internet access available.

Services and Rates

All requests for in-residence internet access for summer conferences must come from the conference organizer or a designated 91ºÚÁÏÍø faculty or staff member. Rates for internet access are $5 per day per account for people accessing the internet while staying in a residential room on campus.

Technical services include the following items:

• A temporary 91ºÚÁÏÍø single sign-on account for each participant.
• Access to the 91ºÚÁÏÍø IS Technology Support Center for questions and problem resolution (during normal hours of operation). Please visit the for the current hours of operation.

Important Notes

• University affiliated conference organizers are expected to coordinate all internet access fees from participants along with initial 91ºÚÁÏÍø account and password information. IS will only accept MoCodes from conference organizers for internet access—no cash or checks will be accepted. Participants with account and password questions or problems can contact the (816-235-2000) with questions.
• Large requests for internet access should be submitted a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the conference.
• Conference organizers should communicate to participants the importance of having their computers updated with the most current security patches and updates prior to arriving on campus. This will help visitors get connected more rapidly.
• internet connectivity in the dorm rooms will require a network cable; wireless connectivity is available in the common areas.

Requesting Summer Conference Accounts For 91ºÚÁÏÍø Affiliated Summer Conferences

To register your group for internet access accounts, please download and complete the Summer Conference Account Request Sheet. The following information is necessary for each account requested:

• First and last name of each person needing an account
• Date span that the accounts will need to be active
• The name and email address of the event sponsor
• Note: The event sponsor will receive a list of usernames and passwords once the accounts are created—this person will then be responsible for distributing the account information
• A MoCode to charge for account creation

Once you have this information, please forward it via email to the IS Technology Support Center.

The following prerequisites need to be met before you connect to the 91ºÚÁÏÍø network:

• Users intending to use the wired in-room network jack must bring their own network cable.
• Your computer must have the most recent security patches/updates installed (please see below for more information).
• 91ºÚÁÏÍø Information Services blocks Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing programs from use on the 91ºÚÁÏÍø network. Computers with active peer-to-peer software will have all network access blocked! For this reason, it is important to make sure you do not have any peer-to-peer software installed before you connect to the 91ºÚÁÏÍø network.

Securing Your Computer

Before your computer is granted access to the 91ºÚÁÏÍø network, you are responsible for ensuring that your computer is up-to-date and secure. Specifically, you should do the following:

• Download and install operating system patches. Make sure your computer has the latest security patches by visiting for Windows computers or Software Update for Macintosh computers (available in System Preferences). You may also want to configure Windows Update or Software Update to automatically download and install critical updates.
• Make sure you have current, up-to-date anti-virus software installed on your computer. Make sure you use anti-virus software and keep it up to date with the most recent anti-virus definitions. Along with the more popular and offerings (among others), there are a few good freeware alternatives like . We also recommend you configure your anti-virus program to download and install updates automatically.
• Watch out for spyware. Run anti-spyware software to remove existing spyware and protect yourself from future attacks. Some excellent freeware tools exist, such as and .
• Prepare your computer for residence hall connectivity. All computers attempting to connect to the 91ºÚÁÏÍø network through the residence hall will automatically have SafeConnect software installed. See our SafeConnect page for more information.
• These guidelines ensure your computer and the 91ºÚÁÏÍø network are secure and protected.

Important Information

Guests staying in the residence halls and using the campus network should note the following:

• Dorm rooms are equipped with one network jack per resident. Therefore, only one device per resident at a time can be connected to the network. Routers and other network access devices are not permitted on the network and will be blocked.
• The 91ºÚÁÏÍø network does not support use of Sony PlayStation game systems. Xbox and Wii systems are permitted. If you have problems connecting your game system to the network, please have the MAC address and IP address of the system handy when you call the for assistance.
