Tablets
Certain types of computing tasks that do not require heavy computational processing are good targets for tablet computing. Consult the information below for current configuration and pricing of the standard, supported tablets. If you require more advanced specifications or special niche systems, please contact us.
Currently, there is no established standard for Android-based tablets due to the divergent and fragmented marketplace and the relatively little demand up to this point. However, certain key items are required if you wish to pursue an Android tablet:
- The tablet must support the current version of Android.
- The tablet must come from a major supplier with well-known and acceptable business practices for sales, support, and service of their products (e.g., Samsung, Google, etc.).
- The tablet must include a minimum of a two-year product warranty with accidental damage protection from the manufacturer.
- No other Windows-based tablet is recommended for purchase. Please work with our IT hardware procurement specialist to configure any tablet and keep in mind the necessity for a minimum of two-years of warranty support to include accidental damage services.
This tablet is recommended as a fixed function platform for simple and repetitive tasks and is not suitable for most content creation, storage, or more intensive usage requirements.
Features:
- Apple A16 Chipset
- 128GB flash storage
- 11" Multi-touch LCD display
- WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0
- 3-year AppleCare Plus Protection Plan
- Weight: 1.0 lbs.

- All IT and telecommunication products, software and services must be purchased through Information Services and/or require CIO approval.
- Laptop security is an important concern at 91ºÚÁÏÍø. While their nature as lightweight, easily portable, and high-value items make them targets for theft, it is often the data contained therein that proves the most important asset to be protected. By default, 91ºÚÁÏÍø Information Services encrypts all new Windows-based laptops with BitLocker. This ensures a thief cannot access your data even if they gain physical possession of your laptop. For more information about data and device security, please refer to our IS Security and Research Policy and Practice documents. Additionally, physical security components such as locks, cables and other devices may be necessary, depending on how the system is to be implemented and its environment. Please contact us if you have questions or need component recommendations and pricing.
- Pursuant to the findings of an Internal Audit from June 2013, UM campus IT units were charged with developing and implementing a centralized approach to securely manage mobile devices and safeguard university data. 91ºÚÁÏÍø responded by implementing AirWatch to manage mobile tablets and cell phones on multiple UM campuses as a shared service. When a device is to be retired, the old device needs to be disposed of , after which the fee will no longer be assessed. Groups that request customized setup and programming services in conjunction with larger-scale mobile device projects will be assessed additional support fees at the standard hourly rate of $75. In doing so, 91ºÚÁÏÍø is developing parity between the way it manages disparate devices, following on its long history of developing tools to manage its desktop and laptop resources.
