The Rainbow Lounge is 91ºÚÁÏÍø’s physical space for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and resources.

You Belong Here

The official 91ºÚÁÏÍø LGBTQIA+ resource space, this welcoming spot for all students — regardless of sex or gender and expression — to reflect or relax is affectionately referred to as our LGBTQIA+ living room. This space is designed to foster connection between students, to provide resources centering LGBTQIA experiences, and to serve as a welcoming space.

After a major update in Summer 2024, we are excited to welcome students back to the Rainbow Lounge!

We ask that all guests help maintain the Rainbow Lounge as a space of inclusion.

The Rainbow Lounge's hours are:

Student Union, Room 325
Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • Free menstrual products (provided by student donations)
  • Free At-Home Rapid HIV testing kits (provided by Kansas City Health Department)

Rainbow Lounge Library

We are thrilled to offer an ever-changing and refined Rainbow Lounge Library that offers new and up-to-date resources, novels, poetry, non-fiction books, theoretical texts, historical accounts, and biographies which represent and speak to a variety of LGBTQIA identities. Most of our books are available to check out, take home with you to read, and bring back. 

Accessing the Lounge

The Rainbow Lounge is located in the Student Union on the third floor. You can find us by following the Rainbow Stripe on the wall while on the third floor or, if entering the building, you can get to us by:

  • From the 1st floor (with the Care Center)
    • Enter the building using the doors on the North side of the building.
    • Take a left and follow the hallway to the elevator.
    • Take the elevator to the third floor.
    • Leave the elevator and walk towards the At East Lounge.
    • Turn right and follow the path past the Office of Student Involvement desk.
    • Take a left down at the Roo Card Office.
    • The Rainbow Lounge is on your right.
  • From the 2nd floor (with the Starbucks and Foodiverse):
    • Take the elevator across from the Foodiverse to the third floor.
    • Leave the elevator and walk towards the At East Lounge.
    • Turn right and follow the path past the Office of Student Involvement desk.
    • Take a left down at the Roo Card Office.
    • The Rainbow Lounge is on your right.

Restrooms Near the Lounge

There are restrooms of each floor of the Student Union. Near the Rainbow Lounge, there are both gendered restrooms and an accessible, single-occupancy restroom. To get there from the Lounge:

  • Leave the Rainbow Lounge and take a left down the hallway.
  • Take a right and pass by the Office of Student Involvement desk and MSA Village entrance.
  • Take a right at the At Ease Zone.
  • The single-occupancy restroom is first on your right, the gendered restrooms and water fountain are down the hall.
